Nasal Plastic Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Operations performed for eliminating functional problems or the appearance of the nose are called nasal plastic surgery, also known as rhinoplasty. It is usually preferred by people unsatisfied with the shape of their nose or who want to have the conditions that prevent the nose from functioning properly eliminated. Rhinoplasty, one of the most common aesthetic interventions, can be performed by specialists in a very short time.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is an aesthetics operation performed on those who have breathing problems, congenital or acquired nasal deformities, or those who want to change the physical appearance of the nose. The nose, which is extremely important visually and functionally, is changed into the visual and functional form desired at the end of this operation.
This operation, which can be preferred by almost anyone, is usually performed by people with the following complaints and requests.
- Nose size
- Arched nose
- Nose length
- Reshaping the tip of the nose
- Large or asymmetrical nostrils
- Changing the nose angle
What is Nasal Tip Rhinoplasty?
The most striking part of the nose is the tip of the nose. For this reason, many patients have nose tip rhinoplasty for a more beautiful nose. In this operation, the cartilages at the tip of the nose are reshaped. Nasal tip rhinoplasty is generally preferred for the following purposes.
- To increase or decrease the nose and lip angle
- To get a thinner nose tip
- For narrowing the nostrils
- For the complaint of a flat or compressed-looking nose tip
- Nostrils not being symmetrical
- To correct the low nose tip
- To correct the lifted nose tip
- For changing the pointed nose tip structure
Rhinoplasty for Males
It is normal that aesthetic interventions on the nose show some differences for men and women. The reason for this is completely related to appearance. Experts recommend that the natural texture of the face should be preserved in male aesthetic operations.
In male rhinoplasty operations, an extremely curved appearance will result in a feminine look. In males, the back of the nose should be straight, not curved. Again, the ideal nose lift angle for men is between 90 and 100 degrees.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
The patient should first clearly express their complaint to the doctor. Then, the doctor determines a method considering the structure of the nose and the requests of the patient, and then the operation is performed.
If the patient does not have a special health problem, the operation is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation is 2 or 3 hours, depending on the patient’s condition and particular complaint. If the patient has had a rhinoplasty operation before, this process may take a little longer due to sinus intervention, cartilage removal from the ear or ribs.
After Rhinoplasty
The patient may feel pain after rhinoplasty. Therefore, painkillers can be administered while the patient is under anesthesia. After the operation, the patient should not stand up for a period of 5-6 hours. During this time, the patient should lie on their back. When the patient stands up for the first time, they may experience dizziness and imbalance, which is normal.
After the operation, blood entrapment in the nasal cavity is also common. Drinking water and consuming liquid foods is permitted gradually after 3 hours after the operation.
After the surgery, the patient can return to their normal life routine within7-10 days. After the operation, the tampons attached to the nose are removed within 4-5 days, and the mold placed on the back of the nose is removed within 7-10 days. When patients experience any problem, they should definitely consult their doctor.
It may take at least 6-8 months for patients with thin skin to achieve the desired appearance and 1-1.5 years for those with thick skin. During this period, activities such as wearing glasses, vigorously brushing teeth, chewing gum, laughing with an open mouth, doing sports that require high effort are not recommended.
