Revision Rhinoplasty
Today, with the integrated development of medicine and technology, the success rate of many aesthetic operations on the human body has increased considerably. The progress in the sensitive and micro aesthetic procedures, especially in the face area, has become an attractive element for people who are afraid of aesthetic operations. After some reshaping operations, revision operations may be required as a result of some requests or problems. Revision rhinoplasty is one of them.
What is Revision Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty may be more important than other aesthetic interventions on the face. Because the nose is an important organ due to its location and perception in society. At first glance, the nose draws attention as it stands in the middle of the human face and is almost the center of the face. For these reasons, aesthetic operations on the nose are very sensitive. Aesthetic interventions on the nose are called rhinoplasty. If the person is not satisfied with some functional or anatomical problems or the appearance after the rhinoplasty operation, they undergo revision rhinoplasty, also known as nasal revision aesthetic operation.
The reasons for the revision rhinoplasty operation generally include nasal bowing, nasal congestion, and asymmetrical appearance. Apart from these, the person may not be satisfied with the new shape of the nose and may request a revision operation.
Research has shown that undesirable results may occur in 10-15% of rhinoplasty operations. Revision rhinoplasty is also a secondary operation that comes into play in order to make the operation successful in such cases. However, for revision surgery, at least one year must pass after the first operation.
In Which Cases can Rhinoplasty be Performed?
A revision operation may be requested when the expected appearance from rhinoplasty does not occur or when there are functional and anatomical problems. We can list these problems as follows.
- Closing the nose valve or not getting enough air in when the person breathes in deeply
- Aesthetic defect as a result of insufficient removal of the arch on the back of the nose in the first nose operation performed
- The drooping at the tip of the nose cannot be corrected or the tip of the nose appears swollen after the first operation
- A clear view of the nostrils from the opposite angle due to excessive elevation of the nasal tip
- Insufficient reduction of the nose compared to the face or reduction of it more than necessary in the first operation
Recovery After Revision Rhinoplasty
If there are no complications after the revision nose surgery, the patients are discharged on the day of the operation. It is possible to see bruises and swelling in the eye area after the revision rhinoplasty operation. This image on the face disappears in 3-4 days. As a result of the changes made after the revision rhinoplasty performed, a longer recovery period might be experienced. Because new interventions may cause more complications. At any rate, people who have undergone surgery can return to their normal life routine in about 10-15 days. As the result of a revision surgery will be visible within 6 months, patients should be tolerant during this period.
